A lively panel discussion examining the relationship between human rights and video games is scheduled for Thursday 13 June at the Australian Human Rights Commission in Sydney.
Hot topics up for discussion include racial stereotyping and the depiction of women in video games, the associations made between games and violence, and bullying in online gaming.
The discussion will also look at the use of video games to promote human rights, and the role of young people and women in the gaming industry.
Panel members include journalist and critic Katie Williams, who is the newly appointed director of the Freeplay Independent Games Festival taking place in Melbourne this September, and critic Brendan Keogh.
They will be joined by Dr Christopher Moore, who is a lecturer in Media and Communication at Deakin University, and Dr Melissa de Zwart, who is an Associate Professor at the Adelaide Law School, and a member of the Classification Review Board.
The event runs from 5.30pm – 7.00pm on 13 June 2013. Further information can be found here.
