Thanks so much to ABC News Court Reporter, Rebecca Opie @BecOpie, for coming to speak at the final lecture for Sentencing and Criminal Justice. Bec provided a frank and fascinating ‘behind the scenes’ insight into reporting on crime. The discussion about what criminal lawyers and crime reporters have in common compared to where they have different perspectives and interests was particularly thought-provoking for students. It was extremely helpful to students to hear how decisions are made on what criminal cases to report, and the challenges faced by journalists in trying to provide balanced reporting of crime to the community.
