Thanks to the students and practitioners who made the Next Steps event – ‘Getting a Foot in the Door of the Criminal Law’ – such a success.
Solicitor and Project Officer from the Women’s Legal Service, Chloe Fragos (second from left), and Legal Education Solicitor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Luke Hannath (far right) shared practical tips for getting started and doing well in criminal law. They were joined by students (from left) Eva Squire, Brian Lian, Sofia Valero, Tabitha Mackenzie and Eli Caon. The students shared experiences of internships in the Supreme Court, and work in criminal chambers and offices, for the Royal Commission into Aged Care, and the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement. The experiences of the speakers showed the range of experiences available in the criminal law and how deeply satisfying the work can be. It was great to hear all the speakers talk about the importance of work-life balance and well-being. It was also a fantastic opportunity for staff and students to end the semester with a relaxed social function.
