The Surrogacy Act was passed last week with all party support, on the basis of a major report submitted by the SA Law Reform Institute (SALRI). This is an outstanding achievement for SALRI; an independent law reform body, linked to the law reform class at the Adelaide Law School.
In particular, warm praise was given by the Hon John Dawkins MLC to student Madeleine Thompson, for her outstanding work as co-author and jointly running the consultation. Maddie joined senior lecturer David Plater in meeting the surrogate mothers, counsellors, and intending parents as they shared powerful and personal stories. Mr Dawkins MLC also made special mention of Maddie’s effort to read every word he’d ever spoken on Surrogacy during his longstanding interest in this area of reform.
Congratulations to SALRI, and the authors of the report. Image may be NSFW.
